Can a faulty car cigarette lighter short circuit the item that is plugged into it ?
For example... I drive pretty much a different vehicle every day, Sometimes they aren't in the best condition. If, by chance, the cigarette lighter was faulty could it ruin my MP3 player which is being powered by it?
Not if you are using the correct adapter. The adapter should be fused as well.
But, the lighter in a car has a big fuse rating (15 amps+) so there is plenty of power available to fry your ipod.
