What format video to download straight to Video Ipod (80gb)?

I have an Ipod Video 80gb andwant to download videos, but I'm not sure what format I need to look for? Avi, mp4? Don't try to sell me a converter, I have one. What I want to do is download videos that can go straight onto my ipod without a converter?
